The second semester for first year doctoral students began with an acquaintance with Professor from Shantou University (Shantou, China). At the first class, the professor introduced the university in which he teaches, told about his scientific activities, and also presented the goal of studying the discipline and the work plan for the upcoming semester to the first year doctoral students.
Professor teaches the discipline “Methods of Scientific Research” for doctoral students of the specialty “6D072900 – Civil Engineering” of the Department “Design of Buildings and Structures” of the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University.
Due to the current situation with COVID-19 all over the world, all classes are held online.
The professor’s lectures are devoted to the study of methods of scientific research: laboratory tests of soil/cement samples, field tests of soils and structures, numerical and theoretical modeling. Professor Garg analyzed each of these methods in detail using the example of his scientific work, illustrating his answers with positive and negative examples.
Also, within the framework of the classes, the fundamental principles of scientific research and the main elements of scientific research were considered. The latter include the repeatability of experimental results, their accuracy, falsifiability, and cost-effectiveness of the research.
Professor Garg pays great attention to the study of scientific literature on the dissertation topics of doctoral students. During the classes, the professor focuses on the importance of the correct design of his articles and dissertations, and also offers various options for instruments, equipment, sensors, software systems that students can use in the framework of the scientific research.
In addition to the doctoral students, the lectures of Professor Ankit Garg were attended by A.Zh. Zhussupbekov, a Doctor of Engineering Science, Professor of the Department of “Design of Buildings and Structures” of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.
Every day after the lectures, Professor Ankit Garg advises the doctoral students of the specialty “Civil Engineering” on the topics of dissertation works. In this regard, the doctoral students receive full consultations on possible directions of scientific research, new literature, and they also discuss the possibilities of undertaking scientific and research internships for doctoral students at the Institute of Technology (PRC) and conducting relevant field research in China and Kazakhstan.
